TotalMD has a very nice feature that will allow you to auto-apply a patient payment, so you don’t have to figure you how to apply a payment across multiple open items.
The most likely place this would be done is from the Scheduler, however, you can do it from the Ledger screen as well.
If you are in the Scheduler, you will see that this patient has a $152.25 Patient Responsible Balance.
From the Scheduler, if the patient is ready to make a payment on this balance you will double-click on the appointment, you will see the Appointment Entry Screen, where you will choose to Enter Payment:
This will show you the patient’s ledger and their open balances. At the bottom, there are several boxes you will want to be aware of prior to choosing to auto-post the payment the patient is going to make:
The first box will allow you to Hide Zero Balance Billings. If this a member of a family for the practice, you can Show Family balances as well. You will probably want to click the Exclude Insurance Responsible box so that you do not apply the patient payment to an insurance-responsible balance.
When your ledger looks the way you want it to, you will go to top and add the dollar amount the patient is paying and a check number if appropriate:
At this time, you will go to the left and Auto Apply:
The system will then apply the amounts as far down the ledger as it can:
